1 oz (fluid ounce) is 29.57 ml, or 29.57 cc, because cc and ml measure the same volume. So 14 oz is 414 ml, 16 oz is 473 ml and 12 oz is 355 ml. The packaging industry, however, uses rounded nominal volumes. For example, we sell the 14 oz cup as 400 cc and the 16 oz cup as 500 cc.
In this article you will find a full conversion chart from 4 oz to 32 oz. You will also learn the formula for converting cc to oz and which cup size suits which drink. Finally, you will see Dipack PET cup sizes together with carton quantities.
How many cc or ml is 1 oz?
Oz is the abbreviation of "ounce". On cups, it means the fluid ounce (fl oz). A US fluid ounce is 29.57 ml, while a British (imperial) fluid ounce is 28.41 ml. The cup industry in Turkey uses the US value, so use 29.57 in your calculations.
cc stands for "cubic centimeter" and ml for "milliliter"; both are exactly the same volume. That is why "14 oz to cc" and "14 oz to ml" have the same answer: about 414. For a quick estimate, multiply the oz value by 30. For example, 12 oz comes to about 360 ml; the actual value is 355 ml.
Oz to cc conversion chart (4 oz to 32 oz)
The table below gives the calculated value together with the nominal industry equivalent, because packaging catalogs list the 14 oz cup as 400 cc, not 414. Use the industry equivalent when choosing a product and the calculated value for fill calculations.
| Oz | Calculated (ml / cc) | Industry equivalent | Typical use |
|---|---|---|---|
| 4 oz | 118 ml | 100-120 cc | Espresso, tastings, sauces |
| 6 oz | 177 ml | 180 cc | Turkish coffee, small tea |
| 7 oz | 207 ml | 200 cc | Vending, water, tea |
| 8 oz | 237 ml | 250 cc | Filter coffee, ayran (yogurt drink), fruit juice |
| 10 oz | 296 ml | 300 cc | Latte, lemonade |
| 12 oz | 355 ml | 350 cc | Iced coffee, cola, fruit juice |
| 14 oz | 414 ml | 400 cc | Cold drinks, milkshakes |
| 16 oz | 473 ml | 500 cc | Bubble tea, smoothies, large iced coffee |
| 18 oz | 532 ml | 600 cc | Large bubble tea, frozen drinks |
| 20 oz | 591 ml | 600 cc | Large cold drinks |
| 24 oz | 710 ml | 700 cc | Extra-large smoothies |
| 32 oz | 946 ml | 1000 cc | Sharing size, bucket cups |
18 oz and 20 oz show the same nominal value in the table; this is not an error. Manufacturers usually group cups between 532 and 591 ml into the "600 cc" class. When you request a quote, ask for the cc value as well as the oz value.
How many cc are 12 oz, 14 oz and 16 oz?
The answer for the three most searched sizes is short: 12 oz is 355 ml (350 cc in the industry), 14 oz is 414 ml (400 cc in the industry) and 16 oz is 473 ml (500 cc in the industry). These three sizes cover most cold drink sales in cafes and kiosks. Thanks to the Ø95 mm rim diameter, the same lid fits all three.
- 12 oz (350 cc): the economy size for single-serve iced coffee, cola and fruit juice; see the 12 oz PET cup.
- 14 oz (400 cc): the medium size that leaves room for ice in iced drinks; see the 14 oz PET cup.
- 16 oz (500 cc): the standard size for bubble tea and smoothies; see the 16 oz PET cup.
Why is a 14 oz cup labeled 400 cc, not 414?
A cup's "brim-full capacity" and its "fill volume" are different. Brim-full capacity is the amount the cup holds when filled to the rim. Fill volume is the serving amount left after allowing room for the lid and ice. That is why manufacturers refer to a 414 ml brim-full capacity by its 400 cc nominal value.
Manufacturers also design molds around round numbers, so 350, 400, 500 and 600 cc series are easier to manage in both inventory and price lists. As a result, a 10-25 ml difference between the oz value on the cup and the cc value in the catalog is normal.
Converting cc to oz
To convert in the other direction, divide the cc value by 29.57. For example, 600 cc is 20.3 oz; in the industry, however, this cup falls into the 18 oz or 20 oz class. The table below shows the oz equivalents of the nominal cc values used for Dipack products.
| cc / ml | Calculated oz | Industry equivalent |
|---|---|---|
| 250 cc | 8.5 oz | 8 oz |
| 300 cc | 10.1 oz | 10 oz |
| 350 cc | 11.8 oz | 12 oz |
| 400 cc | 13.5 oz | 14 oz |
| 500 cc | 16.9 oz | 16 oz |
| 600 cc | 20.3 oz | 18-20 oz |
Which cup size for which drink?
The ice ratio of the drink and the lid type determine the size. In iced drinks, ice fills a third of the cup, so choose one size up. For example, take a 14 oz cup instead of a 12 oz cup for a 300 ml iced coffee. For thick drinks such as bubble tea and smoothies, 16 oz and 18 oz are standard.
- Iced coffee, cola, fruit juice: 12 oz or 14 oz, with a flat lid or dome lid.
- Bubble tea, milkshakes, smoothies: 16 oz or 18 oz, with a dome lid for wide straws.
- Kids' menus and fruit juice: 8 oz or 10 oz, with a spill-resistant sip lid with clip.
Clear PET cups are for cold drinks; for hot drinks, businesses use paper cups. If you are planning hot service, look at our PP products. For example, PP hot food containers suit soup and hot meals.
